Beijing continues to strongly oppose US arms sales to Taiwan, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday, making clear the country’s stance remains unchanged.

China Restates Its Firm Stance
China stands firmly opposed to US arms sales to Taiwan, a senior Chinese official confirmed this week. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun reaffirmed China’s stance on US arms sales to Taiwan on Tuesday. He stressed that Beijing’s stance on this issue has not shifted at all.
New Fighter Jet Deliveries Spark the Remarks
Guo’s comments followed media reports about fresh fighter jet deliveries to the island. Taiwan recently received two F-16V jets purchased from the United States. Reports suggest the island expects 64 more jets before the year is over.
Beijing Calls on Washington to Honor Its Commitments
Guo said the US side must implement the important common understandings reached between the two countries’ presidents. He added that Washington should abide by the one-China principle. The US must also honor the three China-US joint communiques. Guo stressed that continued US arms sales to Taiwan threaten peace across the Taiwan Strait. He urged American officials to act prudently on the Taiwan question.
Taiwan Question Remains China’s Own Affair
Guo made Beijing’s position unmistakably clear during the briefing. “The Taiwan question is China’s internal affair, and resolving it is a matter for the Chinese ourselves that brooks no external interference,” he said.
