Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has dared his presidential runoff rival, Flavio Bolsonaro, to publicly disclose his bank account information amid corruption accusations traded during Sunday’s debate.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has challenged his rival in the race for the country’s top job, Flavio Bolsonaro, to open up his bank records for public view.
Corruption Accusations Fly During Sunday Debate
During a presidential debate held on Sunday, Flavio Bolsonaro accused Lula da Silva’s government of corruption. The exchange quickly turned personal and heated.
Lula da Silva did not let the accusation slide. He fired back with a bold challenge of his own, putting the spotlight squarely on financial transparency.
“Flavio has talked a lot about corruption here. I’m going to make a proposal. I’m challenging you (Flavio Bolsonaro, ed.). Let’s open our bank accounts tomorrow, let’s open our phones, so the Brazilian people know who the thief in this country is,” Lula da Silva said during the debate.
Lula Vows Full Family Disclosure
Lula da Silva clarified that he would reveal details of his own bank account along with those of his entire family. He urged his opponent to match that level of openness.
“And we will go to court,” he added, raising the stakes of his challenge even further.
Tight First Round Sets Up Runoff Battle
The first round of Brazil’s presidential election, held on October 4, failed to produce a clear winner. Neither candidate crossed the 50 percent threshold needed for outright victory.
Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, surprised many by finishing ahead. He secured 47.03 percent of the vote, edging past sitting President Lula da Silva, who collected 45.16 percent.
Decisive Runoff Set For October 25
The deciding second round of voting is scheduled for October 25. Both camps are expected to intensify their campaigns in the days leading up to it.
