Apple has increased the price of its iPhone Pro model for the first time in seven years. The company officially launched the iPhone 17 series, but the major highlight this year is the price jump in some models. Not only has the Pro variant become more expensive, but the newly introduced Air variant, which has replaced the Plus model, also comes with a higher price tag compared to its predecessor.
iPhone 17 Pro Price: How Much Did It Increase?
The new iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 (around ₹97,002). Last year, the iPhone 16 Pro launched at $999 (around ₹88,175). This means Apple has raised the price by $100 (about ₹8,826). However, Apple is also offering more storage this time. The iPhone 17 Pro now comes with 256GB storage in the base model, while the iPhone 16 Pro had 128GB storage. This upgrade makes the new Pro model offer double the storage capacity, partly justifying the price hike.
iPhone Air Costs More Than the Plus
Along with the Pro model, Apple made another big change in its iPhone lineup. The company removed the Plus variant and introduced the iPhone 17 Air, a slimmer and lighter alternative. The iPhone 17 Air starts at $999 (around ₹88,175), which is again $100 (₹8,826) higher than the earlier Plus model. Apple’s Chief Marketing Officer Greg Joswiak highlighted that the entry-level storage has increased across the entire iPhone lineup, which explains the pricing structure.
Apple iPhone Price: Why Are Prices Going Up?
Industry analysts and investors had already predicted these price changes. A CNBC report revealed that Apple faced over $1 billion in tariff costs this quarter. To reduce the impact of these tariffs, the company is shifting a significant part of its production from China to India. Despite this move, the financial burden is still affecting product pricing.
Even though the iPhone 17 Pro and Air models are more expensive, Apple has kept the standard iPhone 17 price at $799 (around ₹70,522), ensuring that customers still have a relatively affordable entry option in the new lineup.
