The Indian Air Force has ordered a formal inquiry following the fatal accident involving the indigenous fighter jet.

Fatal Incident at Air Show
A heartbreaking incident occurred at the Dubai Air Show on Friday. An IAF Tejas crash took place during a live performance. Spectators watched in shock as black smoke billowed over the airport area. The Indian Air Force released a statement soon after. They confirmed the sad news that the pilot did not survive the accident.
Timing and Official Statement
The accident happened around 2:10 pm local time. The jet was performing a demonstration flight for the gathered crowd. The IAF expressed deep sorrow regarding the pilot’s death. In their official statement, they said, “IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief.”
Investigation Launched
Authorities need to know exactly what went wrong today. Therefore, the IAF has ordered a court of inquiry. This investigation will determine the specific cause of the IAF Tejas crash. The event was taking place at the city-state’s second airport. This venue hosts the biennial Dubai Air Show, known for major aviation deals.
History of Accidents
This is unfortunately the second time a Tejas jet has crashed. The first incident occurred earlier this year. On March 12, 2024, a single-engine Tejas crashed near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. That jet had just finished a tri-services exercise. Online videos show the jet hitting the ground and exploding into flames.
