The continuous advancement of AI chatbots has made the race between them intensely interesting. Google Gemini has been a constant topic of discussion for about a year. Its web traffic is now growing at a fast pace. Data from Similarweb clearly indicates a surge in web traffic for Gemini. Simultaneously, OpenAI’s ChatGPT is seeing a quick decline in its traffic. Experts previously anticipated that Google Gemini could pose a serious challenge to ChatGPT. This prediction now appears to be coming true.

How Much Did Gemini’s Traffic Grow?

Just one year ago, Gemini’s traffic share was only 5.4%. Today, this share has surged, now reaching 18.2%. On the other side, ChatGPT’s traffic was 87.2% one year ago. This share has now dropped substantially to 68%. Experts suggest this trend is part of an “AI migration.” Users are no longer relying completely on a single platform. Instead, they are now utilizing various different tools.

Why Is Gemini Gaining Momentum?

Google has actually accelerated its work on AI lately. The company has also begun integrating Gemini into its widely used daily products. Users can now access Gemini through its standalone app and its website. It is also available across other Google products. It is now visible in Chrome, Google Search, Google Docs, and Gmail. This makes it easier for the user to remember and access. They no longer need to recall another specific name for an AI chatbot.

OpenAI Declared ‘Code Red’ After Seeing Gemini’s Progress

Google recently launched its formidable Gemini 3 model. This new model surpassed ChatGPT in many key areas. Following this launch, OpenAI declared a ‘Code Red’ to tackle the competition. This is an internal company term. It signifies that the company plans to accelerate its work on developing a new model.
