Railways has made OTP validation mandatory for Tatkal Ticket Booking to prevent fraudulent practices by agents and brokers.

Railway has introduced a major change in Tatkal ticket booking. This aims to curb fraud and stop the use of fake contact numbers. The new system now makes OTP entry mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets. This rule took effect today, starting with a selected train. The system will be gradually applied to all trains later. The main goal is to verify the passenger’s real mobile number. This ensures the ticket reaches the genuine traveler. Let us now explore where this OTP-based system was first implemented.

OTP Required for Booking from December 1

Entering an OTP is now compulsory for Tatkal ticket bookings. This new rule began today, December 1. The Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express is the pilot train. The ticket will confirm only after entering the correct OTP. This OTP is sent to the registered mobile number during booking. This step will effectively prevent illegal bookings and fake numbers.

Applicable Across All Booking Platforms

This new system is not limited to online methods only. It applies to all official booking platforms. This includes the IRCTC website and mobile app. It also covers computerized PRS counters. Authorized railway agents must follow it too. Therefore, an OTP is mandatory for any Tatkal ticket booking.

Railways Advises Mobile Number Update

Railways strongly advises passengers to keep their mobile numbers updated. The OTP will be sent only to the number registered during booking. Once the OTP is sent, the registered number cannot be changed.

Targeting Agents and Fraudulent Booking

Complaints about Tatkal ticket booking have increased recently. All tickets vanished within minutes of booking opening. Brokers and agents booked a large volume of tickets. Railways implemented this OTP system to stop this corruption. It ensures tickets are secured for actual travelers.

How the New OTP System Works

Passengers will enter their mobile number during the booking process. The system instantly sends an OTP to that number. The ticket booking will only proceed and confirm after the OTP is correctly entered. This new process is simple and will not cause any difficulty for travelers.

Future Rollout Plans

The Mumbai Central Shatabdi Express is part of the first phase. The new rule will be implemented across all railway zones soon.
