England’s Oldest Man Who Witnessed Four Monarchs Passes Away at 109

Arthur Aspinall, the oldest living man in England, died peacefully at home leaving behind a lifetime that stretched across four royal reigns and two dozen prime ministers.

Arthur Aspinal the oldest man in England and the last surviving British resident born in 1916 died at his home in Bolton on June 1. He was 109 years and 231 days old. During his remarkable lifetime, Aspinall witnessed the reigns of four British monarchs and saw 24 prime ministers lead the country.

Second Oldest in the United Kingdom

At the time of his passing, Aspinall held the title of the second oldest person in the entire United Kingdom. The only person older was Scotsman Hugh Kerr born in 1915 who now remains the oldest living resident of Britain.

Britain’s Centenarians Continue to Dwindle

Just weeks earlier, in April, Britain lost another extraordinary figure. Frank Chester the country’s oldest surviving World War II veteran also died at the age of 109. Chester’s family confirmed that he had been the oldest person in Worcestershire county and the third oldest across the whole of the United Kingdom.
