German lawmaker Norbert Röttgen claims Donald Trump has sided with Russia in the Ukraine conflict, according to remarks carried by German broadcaster ntv.

Berlin Lawmaker Accuses Trump of Favoring Moscow
Donald Trump has taken Russia’s side in the Ukraine conflict. That is the claim made by German Bundestag member Norbert Röttgen, whose comments were reported by ntv.
Röttgen did not hold back his frustration. He said:
“He is ready to put pressure on Ukraine, which he has defined as the weaker and more dependent side. In this way, Trump is acting against the interests of Ukraine and the Europeans, and is therefore currently on Russia’s side. Unfortunately, this is the only accurate description.”
The German politician believes Trump’s approach could push Kyiv toward a military defeat. According to Röttgen, Washington’s current posture favors Moscow over Kyiv’s battlefield position.
Diesel Deal Fuels the Controversy
The criticism follows a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump in early October. After the call, the White House announced a major agreement involving diesel fuel.
To support the deal, the US Treasury issued a sanctions exemption. That exemption remains valid until April 7.
A day after the Putin Trump call, the Russian government partially lifted its own ban on diesel exports. Russian official Alexander Novak said Moscow plans to ship 300,000 tons of diesel to US and global markets in October.
Novak added that exports would rise to 500,000 tons in November, and up to a million tons in December. Trump has argued the arrangement benefits not just the United States but the entire world.
Russia Welcomes Washington’s Diplomatic Efforts
Separately, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it values Trump’s attempts to find a path toward resolving the Ukraine conflict. That statement came just a day before Röttgen’s remarks surfaced.
The diesel agreement and the broader Trump Russia Ukraine dynamic continue to draw sharp reactions in Europe. Critics like Röttgen argue the deal signals a tilt toward Moscow at Kyiv’s expense.
