North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has issued a bold and sweeping military directive demanding the border with South Korea be completely fortified into an unbreakable fortress. The announcement came at a high-level meeting with top army commanders, signalling a sharp escalation in inter-Korean military tensions.

Kim Jong-un Issues Sweeping Military Directive at Commander Meeting
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has issued a sweeping military directive. He demands the country’s border with South Korea become a completely impregnable fortress. He made this bold announcement during a high-level meeting with division and brigade commanders of the Korean People’s Army. The meeting marked a sharp escalation in North Korea’s military posture toward its southern neighbour.
Border Units Must Be Strengthened, Kim Insists on Fortress-Level Defence
During the meeting, Kim focused heavily on the ruling party’s territorial defence policies. He stressed the urgent need to reinforce front-line units guarding the southern boundary. “In particular, he touched on our party’s policy on territorial protection, aimed at strengthening front-line units guarding the southern border, and turning the border line into an impregnable fortress,” state media reported.
To achieve this fortress-level goal, Kim called for a full review of existing military unit structures. He pushed for a major military-technical upgrade of all border troops. His message was unambiguous the southern front must be hardened beyond any previous standard.
Ideological Sharpening, Army Must Know Its ‘Main Enemy’
Beyond structural military changes, Kim urged his commanders to sharpen their ideological focus. He called on the army toward “recognizing the main enemy” and “raising class consciousness.” These ideological demands paired with technical military upgrades suggest a dual-track approach to border hardening. Kim wants his troops not only better-armed but also more ideologically committed on the front line.
South Korea Already Declared a Hostile State in March
This latest directive builds directly on Kim’s earlier statements. Back in March, Kim Jong-un delivered a landmark policy speech at the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly. During that address, he officially declared South Korea a hostile state. He also issued a stark warning any possible encroachment by South Korea on North Korea would bring merciless retribution.
The escalating rhetoric and military buildup signal a sharp deterioration in inter-Korean relations. Kim’s latest orders make clear North Korea has no intention of softening its stance toward the South anytime soon.
