Court Closes the Libra Case

An Argentine court has dropped the criminal case against President Javier Milei linked to a cryptocurrency scandal. A source in judicial circles confirmed the news.

The source put it simply: “The Libra case: everyone acquitted”

Milei’s Sister Cleared Too

The case did not target Milei alone. Prosecutors had also pursued Karina Milei, the president’s sister and head of his office. Her case was dismissed along with her brother’s.

The Judge’s Reasoning

The presiding judge explained the ruling clearly. He stated that the actions in question simply did not amount to a crime.

How the Crypto Scandal Began

The controversy traces back to mid-February 2025. Milei posted details about a cryptocurrency on social media platform X. That single post sent the coin’s value soaring almost instantly.

The price did not stay up for long. It crashed soon after, leaving many investors with heavy losses.

Public backlash followed quickly. Critics blasted the president, arguing his endorsement pushed ordinary people into a risky bet. Many had rushed to buy the token and lost money when it collapsed.

Milei later deleted the post entirely. He explained that he hadn’t been familiar with the project’s details. Once he realized that, he said, he chose to stop promoting it.

A Wave of Lawsuits

The fallout triggered a formal investigation. Prosecutors opened proceedings based on complaints filed against Milei over the crypto controversy.

The numbers were striking. A total of 112 lawsuits were filed against him. Accusations ranged from fraud and ethics violations to abuse of office. Some filings also alleged involvement in an illegal organization and bribery.

With the court’s latest decision, all of those claims have now been thrown out.
