Security forces in Pakistan successfully eliminated 22 terrorists. The banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants were killed in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The operation followed specific intelligence inputs.

The army confirmed the action on Tuesday. A statement was issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). This is the media wing of the Pakistani Army. It stated that forces conducted the operation on Monday. The target area was the Bannu district. It borders North Waziristan. There were reports of terrorist presence there.

Pakistani Army’s Statement

The statement confirmed the elimination of the militants. “During the operation, troops targeted the miscreants’ hideout,” the statement read. “Twenty-two Khwarijes were killed after an intense exchange of fire.” The term ‘Fitna Al-Khawarij’ is used by the Pakistani government. It refers to the TTP terrorists. ISPR also confirmed that search operations are ongoing. This ensures all terrorists are completely eliminated from the region.

Ongoing Counter-Terrorism Efforts

The military emphasized its ongoing commitment. Security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue counter-terrorism operations. This is to entirely root out the threat of terrorism from the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the successful mission. He highlighted the “great successes” achieved in the fight against terrorism. “The entire nation stands with the Pakistan Army in the war against terrorism,” he affirmed. He added, “We are committed to completely eradicating every form of terrorism from the country.”

TTP and Escalating Attacks

The TTP revoked a ceasefire agreement with the government in November 2022. Since then, terrorist activities have surged in Pakistan. This increase is particularly noted in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.

The latest in this series of terrorist incidents occurred on Monday morning. It was a suicide bombing at the Federal Constabulary (FC) headquarters in Peshawar. Three FC personnel died in the attack. Twelve others sustained injuries.

Inspector General of Police for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, spoke on Tuesday. He said authorities identified the location. This is where the terrorists spent the night before the suicide bombing.
