Trump Makes Controversial Statement

US President Donald Trump delivered a major and controversial statement regarding South Africa. Trump posted on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote that the US did not participate in the G20 conference in South Africa. This was because the government there is not taking ‘atrocities against whites’ seriously.

The Allegations

Trump claims that Afrikaner and European-origin people are facing attacks in South Africa. He also asserts their lands are being seized. He stated the South African government is not addressing this issue. Trump mentioned a specific incident after the G20 Summit. South Africa formally failed to hand over the G20 presidency to a senior US Embassy official. This happened even though the official attended the closing ceremony.

A Direct Warning to South Africa

He issued a warning to the nation. Trump stated that as per his directive, South Africa will not receive an invitation. This invitation is for the 2026 G20 Summit, which is set to occur next year in Miami. Along with this, he also announced a major decision. The US will immediately halt all economic aid previously provided to South Africa.

Criticism of American Media

Trump also attacked the American media. He accused the “Fake News Media” of remaining silent on the whole issue. He said they were not reporting on the alleged atrocities happening in South Africa. South Africa has not yet responded to Trump’s recent statement. However, they have previously dismissed “white genocide” accusations as false. The government maintains that land reforms are carried out strictly under the law.

America’s Boycott of the G20 Summit

This year, South Africa hosted the G20 Summit 2025 in Johannesburg. Top leaders attended the event. These included India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and UK PM Keir Starmer. Heads of state from Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, Jamaica, and several other countries were present. However, the US boycotted the conference this time. President Donald Trump did not participate in the G20. Furthermore, the US delegation did not attend either.
