US Pushes For Quick Elections In Venezuela
The United States is working with Venezuelan lawmakers to set up conditions for a swift presidential election. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed this during a Fox News interview.
“We are working hard with the National Assembly to establish the conditions necessary for holding honest and free elections as soon as possible,” Rubio told Fox News.
His comments come months after a dramatic shift in Venezuela’s political landscape.
Background: The January Strike And Maduro’s Capture
On January 3, the US carried out a massive strike against Venezuela. President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured during the operation. Both were then taken to New York.
US authorities accused them of links to “narco-terrorism.” This accusation formed the basis for their capture.
Following these events, Delcy Rodríguez took over as Venezuela’s authorized president. She previously served as the country’s vice president. Her appointment marked a major turning point for Venezuela’s leadership structure.
Rubio’s latest remarks suggest Washington now wants to move toward formal elections. The process could reshape Venezuela’s political future in the coming months.
