Vance Touches Down for Swiss Talks
US Vice President JD Vance has arrived in Switzerland for negotiations with Iran’s delegation. CNN reported the news, citing information from his office.
“Vance arrived in Switzerland for talks between the US and Iran,” the broadcaster’s website stated.
Before departing, Vance said he would stay for the Iran talks no longer than two days. He confirmed his visit would remain short and focused.
Bürgenstock Hosts Closed-Door Sessions
Technical negotiations between Iran and the US will begin Sunday in Switzerland’s Bürgenstock. Mediator nations Pakistan and Qatar will also take part in the discussions. The talks are expected to happen behind closed doors, away from public view.
Memorandum Signed Days Earlier
Iran and the US remotely signed a memorandum overnight on June 18. The agreement outlines an end to the military conflict that began on February 28. It also sets timelines for the US to lift its naval blockade. Iran, in turn, agreed to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz once conditions are met.
Additionally, Iran has committed to not acquiring nuclear weapons under the deal. The nuclear program issue itself will be settled through a separate agreement. Both sides plan to hold talks on this matter over the next sixty days. Tehran expects the eventual outcome to include the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions.
