Strategic Partnership and Peace Efforts Top Agenda as Jaishankar Meets Lavrov

India and Russia are busy finalizing several crucial agreements and projects. This is happening before President Putin’s important visit to India next month. Discussions between Foreign Ministers Jaishankar and Lavrov focused heavily on strengthening the strategic partnership and supporting peace initiatives.
Strengthening Special Partnership
India and Russia are looking to solidify their ties. They plan to do this through numerous agreements and joint projects. This push coincides with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s expected visit to New Delhi. The visit is scheduled for early next month. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar held comprehensive talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. This meeting took place in Moscow on Monday (November 17). It was part of the preparations for the upcoming summit.
Jaishankar spoke during his opening remarks at the meeting. He stated, “This special occasion is even more significant for me.” He added, “We are currently preparing for President Putin’s visit to India for the 23rd Annual Summit.” He highlighted that many bilateral agreements are under discussion. “Numerous bilateral agreements, initiatives, and projects across various sectors are being discussed,” he said. “We anticipate their finalization in the coming days.”
Jaishankar’s Key Statement
S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of these future deals. He affirmed, “These will surely provide greater strength and substance to our special and privileged strategic partnership.” Furthermore, Jaishankar also voiced India’s support for recent efforts. These efforts aim to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. He stated, “India supports the recent efforts towards establishing peace.” He concluded, “We hope all parties will move constructively towards this objective.”
Russian President Expected Around December 5
The Foreign Minister is currently in Moscow for talks with Lavrov. This visit is considered a preparatory step for Putin’s trip. The Russian President is likely to arrive in India around December 5. His visit is for the annual summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This summit is expected to yield significant outcomes. These results will further boost the bilateral strategic relationship. India and Russia have already hosted 22 annual summit meetings alternately.
