Iran Denounces U.S. Military Strikes on Bandar Abbas Region

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei issued a sharp condemnation Thursday slamming the United States for what he called a brazen military attack on several areas in Bandar Abbas. He called it a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

“Iran firmly condemns the American military aggression on Thursday morning against a number of areas in Bandar Abbas reminding the world that aggressive acts against territorial integrity and sovereignty are a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter,” Baghaei said.

He also called on the UN Security Council to hold the United States accountable for the strikes and stressed Iran’s firm resolve to take all necessary steps to defend itself.

U.S. Strikes Triggered by Strait of Hormuz Tensions

The strikes came amid rising tensions over the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Reports indicated that the U.S. targeted an Iranian military site citing threats to American forces and shipping lanes through the strait. Iranian military forces then struck back, hitting a U.S. base in the region.

The situation escalated further when U.S. President Donald Trump earlier threatened that the United States would “blow up” Oman should it attempt to take control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran Slams Washington’s Threats Against Regional Nations

Baghaei didn’t stop at the strikes he also took aim at what he described as threatening rhetoric from U.S. officials directed at Iran and neighboring countries. His remarks specifically called out Trump’s threat against Oman.

“The threat to blow up a country that has always played a constructive and effective role in matters of peace and security serving for many years as a diplomatic mediator is not only a violation of the fundamental principle of the prohibition of the use of force,” Baghaei stated. “It is also a dangerous sign of the normalization of lawlessness in international relations,” he added.

Oman has long served as a behind-the-scenes diplomatic bridge between Iran and the West making Trump’s threat all the more alarming to regional observers.
