Ghalibaf: Iran, US, and Lebanon to Form Joint Committee to Monitor Lebanon Situation

Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad-Baqer Ghalibaf announced that Iran, the United States, and Lebanon will establish a joint oversight committee. Its goal will be to protect Lebanon’s national sovereignty amid ongoing regional tensions.

Iran, the United States, and Lebanon are set to form a joint committee focused on protecting Lebanon’s national sovereignty. Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad-Baqer Ghalibaf made this announcement on live Iranian state television.

“A joint committee of Iran, the US, and Lebanon will be created to safeguard Lebanon’s national sovereignty,” Ghalibaf told state TV. “Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon will serve as our representative in this committee,” he added.

The announcement follows a landmark agreement. On the night of June 18, Iran and the United States remotely signed a memorandum. That document outlines a path to end the military conflict that began on February 28.

The very first clause of the memorandum calls for an immediate halt to hostilities by allies of both nations in Lebanon. The conflict there involves Iran-backed Lebanese movement Hezbollah on one side. Israel, a key US ally, is on the other side.

The formation of this joint Iran–US–Lebanon committee marks a significant diplomatic shift. It signals both Washington and Tehran are willing to cooperate on stabilising Lebanon. The move comes after weeks of intense regional conflict and diplomatic negotiations.

Lebanon has been a central flashpoint in the broader Iran–US–Israel standoff. The joint committee, with Iran’s envoy as Tehran’s representative, is expected to play an active monitoring role. It could also help ensure the ceasefire terms in the memorandum are upheld.
