Iran and US Reach Agreement on Core Points of Landmark Peace Memorandum

Iran’s foreign ministry confirmed that a memorandum of understanding with the United States has been agreed upon across all major points but warned that Washington’s contradictory stance keeps disrupting the process.

Iran Confirms Key Points of US Deal Are Agreed

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei confirmed that the draft memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington is largely finalized. Speaking to Press TV, he said the core language of the text is now settled but cautioned that the process keeps hitting roadblocks. According to him “As far as the wording goes, the text is almost agreed on its main points. The problem is that the contradictory stance of the US has always caused disruptions in this process.”

High-Level Approval Reportedly Already in Place

Axios, citing well-placed sources, reported that Iran’s leadership at the highest levels has already endorsed the agreement. The deal now awaits a final sign-off from Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. This marks a potentially decisive step one that could bring the drawn-out negotiations toward a close.

Trump Predicts Signing This Weekend

Baghaei had earlier called Trump’s claims about an imminent peace signing speculative stressing that “nothing is finalized yet.” He pointed out that Washington had shifted its position multiple times over the past two months and had repeatedly violated ceasefire terms. However, on Thursday, Trump stated that a deal could come as early as the upcoming weekend possibly in Europe with Vice President JD Vance present at the signing. Trump further stated that Iran’s memorandum would include a formal commitment to never seek nuclear weapons. A lifting of the naval blockade on Iran is also part of the proposed agreement.

Escalation Before the Breakthrough

Earlier that same day, Trump called off planned military strikes on Iran saying discussions had reached the highest levels of Iranian leadership and received official approval. Wednesday had seen the White House accuse Tehran of deliberately stalling negotiations. Then, overnight into Thursday, US forces struck southern Iran. Trump issued a stark warning threatening total destruction of Iran if it refused to sign a deal.

Tehran Strikes Back Hard

Iran answered with full force. Tehran completely shut down passage through the Strait of Hormuz declaring this the opening phase of a major offensive operation using missiles and drones. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced strikes on targets across the Middle East including air bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. Reports also indicated Iranian military forces struck bases in Iraq and Jordan and targeted assets of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.
