Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson says 20 Russian citizens remain on a tanker held since May near Paradip port over a fuel debt dispute.

Moscow confirms Russians remain on board
Moscow has confirmed that a ship arrested in India still carries 20 Russian citizens. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, shared the update on October 3. She spoke when asked about the situation.
What Zakharova said
she said that 20 Russian citizens are still on the arrested vessel.
Why the ship arrested in India faces a debt case
The vessel is a tanker that sails under the flag of Cameroon. Authorities arrested it off the Indian coast in May. The case began as a commercial dispute. The shipowner owes money to a local fuel supplier. That debt led to the arrest.
Where the vessel stands now
The tanker has stayed at anchor near the port of Paradip since the arrest. In total, 23 sailors are on board. Twenty of them are Russian citizens. The ship arrested in India remains in place while the dispute continues.
