A deadly Ukrainian drone strike hit residential areas of Cheboksary, capital of Russia’s Chuvashia republic killing two people and wounding 32 others. Chuvashia’s governor declared a state of emergency as buildings burned and missile threats lingered into Tuesday afternoon.

Ukraine Strikes Deep Into Russia, Chuvashia Hit Hard
Ukraine launched a major long-range drone-and-missile strike deep inside Russia on Tuesday. The attack targeted the Chuvashia republic located roughly 900 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Two civilians lost their lives, and more than 30 others suffered injuries in the assault.
Chuvashia’s governor, Oleg Nikolaev, quickly declared a state of emergency across the entire region. He confirmed that more than two dozen apartment buildings in the regional capital, Cheboksary, sustained heavy damage. Thirty-two residents were rushed to hospitals after the drone hits tore through residential neighborhoods.
Fireball Caught on Camera, Buildings Gutted
A dramatic video spread rapidly across social media on Tuesday. It appeared to capture the exact moment a drone slammed into one of Cheboksary’s apartment blocks instantly erupting into a massive fireball. The footage shocked viewers and underscored the scale of the drone strike on the civilian area.
Russia’s top investigative authority the Investigative Committee had earlier acknowledged an unspecified number of “fatalities and injuries” inside the city. This came before the regional governor released the full official toll.
Emergency Shelters Opened, Public Transit Shut Down
Chuvashia’s Prime Minister Oleg Artamonov said “several victims” still remained under medical supervision. Residents who lost their homes or had to evacuate received emergency shelter in temporary facilities set up across the city.
The region stayed on high alert well into Tuesday afternoon. Public transport stopped running across Cheboksary. School authorities moved all students to online classes as the drone-and-missile threat alert remained active over the republic.
Zelensky Claims Strike Hit Military Production Facility
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky directly addressed the strike on Tuesday. He said Ukraine deployed a long-range F-5 Flamingo missile striking what he described as a Russian “military production site” inside Chuvashia. He said the targeted facility supplied navigation components used in Russian missiles and military vehicles.
The strike reached nearly 900 kilometers roughly 560 miles from Ukraine’s border with Russia making it one of the deepest confirmed Ukrainian strikes in recent months.
Russia Also Hit Ukraine, Five Dead Overnight
Meanwhile, Russia launched its own overnight strikes across Ukraine on Tuesday. At least five people died in those Russian attacks according to Ukrainian authorities. The exchange of strikes highlighted how both sides continue to escalate long-range attacks well beyond front-line zones.
