Peskov Says United Russia Victory Reflects Strong Public Backing for Putin

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says the United Russia victory shows citizens standing behind Putin and his policies.

The United Russia victory in the State Duma elections points to a united public. Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said citizens are rallying around President Vladimir Putin. He added that voters back the president’s policies.

Peskov Explains What the Result Means

Peskov spoke about the outcome in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin. He linked the party’s win to public support for the head of state. Peskov said:

“Since the absolute majority went to the United Russia party, and it is a party that fully shares Putin’s ideology, then of course this can be compared with such a statement of consolidation of Russian citizens around the president and general support for his policy.”

United Russia Victory Follows a Three Day Vote

Voters chose deputies to the ninth State Duma from September 18 to 20. The head of state called the vote the most important domestic political event in the country.
