Iran Lodges Protest With ICAO Over US Flight Restrictions on Its Airlines

Iran’s aviation chief says the protest aims to counter what he calls illegal US curbs on Iranian airlines.

Iran has filed a formal Iran ICAO protest over new US flight restrictions on its airlines. The complaint went to the International Civil Aviation Organization, known as ICAO. Abuzar Shirudi, head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, announced the move on Monday.

Iran Takes Its Complaint to the Global Aviation Body

Tehran, September 28. The Iran ICAO protest targets limits that Washington placed on flights by Iranian carriers. Shirudi said his office prepared the protest and sent it to ICAO. He also explained why Iran took this step.

“To protect legitimate rights and counter the illegal restrictions imposed by the US, Iran’s protest was prepared and sent to ICAO,” Shirudi told the IRNA news agency.

Washington’s Earlier Warning on Iranian Airlines

The protest follows a warning from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. He said Iranian airlines would be unable to fly from September 23. He added that they would receive no ground services because of sanctions. These restrictions are the subject of the Iran ICAO protest, which is now with the international aviation body.
