Apple’s much-anticipated “Awe Dropping” event is now less than two days away, and rumours about the iPhone 17 series continue to emerge. Recent leaks from South Korea suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro models could boast up to 8X optical zoom, marking a substantial improvement over the 5X telephoto sensor in the current iPhone models. Additionally, the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are reportedly designed with enhanced heat dissipation, thanks to a newly integrated vapour chamber system.

According to 9to5Mac, referencing tipster @Jukanlosreve’s now-deleted X post, the iPhone 17 Pro variants may come with advanced telephoto cameras. Documents shared by a South Korean carrier reveal that these models could support an 8X optical zoom lens. This is a notable upgrade compared to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which house 48-megapixel telephoto lenses limited to 5X optical zoom. These leaks align with previous reports from July, which hinted at similar camera enhancements.

Heat management also appears to be a priority in the new models. Sources suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max could debut with a vapour chamber cooling mechanism. This system disperses heat from CPU and GPU components using a vacuum-sealed chamber containing a small amount of liquid, acting as a passive heat spreader. Combined with the expected aluminium frame, this setup could help the rumoured A19 Pro chip maintain peak performance over longer periods without thermal throttling.

If confirmed, Apple would be introducing a new thermal solution for the second year in a row. Last year, the iPhone 16 Pro featured a graphene-based cooling system to address overheating issues observed in previous models, including the iPhone 15 Pro. The vapour chamber could further enhance thermal performance, allowing users to play graphics-intensive games, record ProRes videos for longer durations, and potentially capture content in 8K resolution without encountering the “Your iPhone needs to cool down” warning.

The iPhone 17 Pro’s camera and cooling upgrades signal Apple’s continued focus on performance and photography, promising a smoother experience for power users.
