Former Union Minister and Congress MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor recently visited the BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi. He greatly praised the temple’s architectural style during his visit. The Congress leader also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution to the temple’s establishment.
PM Modi’s Vision Realized
Dr. Tharoor spoke after visiting the BAPS Hindu Temple. He said PM Modi’s cooperation with the UAE government helped fulfill the dream of a Hindu place of worship. This achievement met the aspirations of many Hindus in the region. Tharoor shared his thoughts with the temple’s head, Swami Brahmavihari Das, in a video posted on his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle.
Tharoor Appreciates Temple’s Architecture
In the video, Shashi Tharoor noted this architectural wonder left a lasting impression on him. The temple is located in the desert, 90 miles from Dubai and 60 miles from the UAE capital. Tharoor appreciated the temple’s complex design. This includes insulating tiles that keep visitors’ feet cool in 50-degree heat.
Hand-carved sandstone sculptures and detailed idols showcase exquisite craftsmanship. They represent seven major deities with separate shrines. He was amazed by the temple’s dust-free pillars. This feat is achieved by thoughtful surrounding structures protecting the complex from desert sand.
A Fairy-Tale Experience
Reflecting on his time at the United Nations, Tharoor called the temple a microcosm of creation’s unity. He praised the foresight of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, who inspired this project. He also commended the role of the UAE government, especially Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed. The temple’s engaging elements, like a 15-minute animated digital cinema, captivated Tharoor. He described the entire experience as a fairy-tale.
