Sharp Rise in Indian Deportations from Canada

The forced removal of Indians from Canada increased sharply in recent years. Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) data shows a record high this year. As of July 28 this year, Canada deported 1,891 Indian nationals. This number was only 625 in the year 2019. This massive jump highlights stricter enforcement.

India Second on Forced Deportation List

India holds the second spot for forced removals of foreign nationals from Canada. Up to July 28, 2025, 2,678 people from Mexico faced forced removal from Canada. In 2024, Canadian authorities forcibly removed 1,997 Indians. Last year, 3,683 Mexicans and 981 Colombians were removed from Canada.

Why is Canada Forcing Indians Out?

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney addressed a query on this issue. He was asked if the government will focus on sending foreign offenders back home. He responded to the question with a definite “yes.” He stated plans to improve tracking with better resources to speed up this process. He mentioned this initiative is part of reforms to Canada’s immigration system.

Eight Indian Nationals Recently Arrested

The deportation process began amid rising anti-immigration sentiment in Canada. Recently, eight individuals were arrested there for the alleged theft of 450 packages. Those arrested were identified as Sumanpreet Singh, Gurdeep Chatha, Jashandeep Jattana, Harman Singh, Jasanpreet Singh, Manroop Singh, Rajbir Singh, and Upinderjit Singh.

Peel Regional Police released a press statement on October 10, 2025, regarding this matter. They confirmed active engagement with the Peel Crown Attorney’s office. They are also working with the Canada Border Services Agency. This collaboration will decide if the removal of the accused foreign nationals can move forward as part of the judicial process.
