The BRICS TimesBJP Minority Morcha chief Jamal Siddiqui says issuing a fatwa against the man who insulted PM Modi and his mother would act as “a corrective step” for him and also strengthen “Islamic values of respect and morality in society.”
A BJP leader has urged Darul Uloom Deoband to issue a fatwa against a man accused of making indecent remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar last week.
Calling the incident “highly sensitive and deeply concerning,” BJP Minority Morcha president Jamal Siddiqui stressed that Islam places the utmost importance on respect for parents. He said the remarks allegedly made by Mohammad Rizvi, who has since been arrested and placed in 14-day judicial custody, not only insulted Modi’s mother but also harmed the community’s reputation.
In his letter to Maulana Abdullah Mujahid Siddiqui, principal of the UP-based Islamic seminary, Jamal Siddiqui alleged that Rizvi—also known as Raja and identified as a Congress worker from Singhwara—used “extremely offensive and inappropriate language” against the PM’s mother during Gandhi’s campaign rally in Darbhanga.
The BJP has already filed an FIR in the matter, which sparked clashes between BJP and Congress-RJD supporters. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc has denied any association with Rizvi and disowned his statements. Still, the BJP has demanded public apologies from both the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
Quoting Islamic scriptures, Siddiqui pointed out that the Quran (Surah Al-Isra 17:23) commands believers to honor their parents, and Prophet Muhammad described a mother as the “gateway to Paradise.” Rizvi’s actions, he argued, violated these teachings, insulted a family, and risked fueling social discord, while also damaging the image of Muslims nationwide.
Appealing to Darul Uloom Deoband to issue a fatwa, Siddiqui said such a step would not only guide Rizvi towards reform but also help “uphold Islamic morality and foster a spirit of respect within society.”
