A Calculated Entry: Spare Key, Empty House, Silent Attack

A 19-year-old domestic helper named Rahul Meena spent Tuesday night raping a woman in Alwar, Rajasthan. The very next morning, he boarded a vehicle to Delhi. He had a clear plan return to the Kailash Hills apartment where he had worked for eight months. Meena had been fired a month ago for financial misconduct. He still had a spare key.

Meena knew everything about that household. He knew the parents left early each morning for the gym. He knew their 22-year-old daughter an IIT graduate preparing for civil services exams would be alone in the rooftop study. CCTV footage shows he entered the upscale south Delhi colony at 6.30 am. He slipped inside the apartment at 6.49 am. By 7.20 am, he was gone.

Strangulation, Assault and a Biometric Lock That Wouldn’t Open

Inside the study, Meena attacked the young woman with terrifying force. He used a mobile phone charging cable to strangle her. He then struck her on the head with a heavy object, leaving her unconscious.

“The investigation suggests that the accused raped the victim while she was still unconscious. He then dragged her down the stairs to another room where a locker was kept, and attempted to open the biometric lock using her fingerprint, but it did not open,” a police official said.

When the fingerprint scanner failed, Meena broke open the locker using a screwdriver. He stole cash and jewellery. He then changed out of his blood-stained clothes and slippers. He walked out of the house roughly 30 minutes before the victim’s parents returned home.

Parents Return, Daughter Found Lying in Blood

The horrifying reality came to light when the parents got back from the gym. They found their daughter lying in a pool of blood. Her clothes were torn and her belongings lay scattered all over the floor. They rushed her to Fortis Escorts Hospital in Okhla, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Dr Sudhir Gupta, head of the Forensic Department at AIIMS-Delhi, confirmed the brutal nature of the attack. The post-mortem revealed multiple abrasions and abraded contusions across both arms, hands and legs. The victim also suffered a nasal bone fracture. Examination of the neck showed extensive damage to the muscles.

“The findings show death due to strangulation following assault. The preserved swabs and nail scrapings have been sent for further analysis to ascertain whether rape took place,” Gupta said.

All internal organs showed congestion a clear sign of asphyxial death due to strangulation. The external injuries pointed to active resistance by the victim.

Court Appearance and Shifting Statements

Rahul Meena faced a judicial magistrate on Thursday, a day after his arrest. Before Judicial Magistrate Deepika Thakaran, his tone shifted dramatically.

“Mujhse apradh ho gaya… Galti ho gayi (I committed a crime, a mistake),” the teenager said in court.

But back in interrogation rooms, police say the accused showed almost no remorse. He changed his story multiple times. Officials familiar with the questioning described him as having a “perverted mindset.” The court granted Delhi Police four days of custodial interrogation.

CCTV Trail From Delhi to Dwarka Hotel

After fleeing the apartment, Meena hired an autorickshaw. Police traced the vehicle and questioned the driver. He had already booked a hotel room in Dwarka, around 25 km from the crime scene — using a mobile phone. That is where police eventually arrested him on Wednesday.

“The accused took an autorickshaw. The auto was traced and the driver was questioned,” an official said.

Police also intend to recover the victim’s phone, which Meena allegedly carried away. Cash, jewellery and other stolen items remain to be recovered.

“Phone, jewellery, cash and many other things to be recovered from him. So far, investigation suggests that he was not in contact with any other person. During his custody police will also request the forensic department for his DNA profile. We have a strong case against the accused and we are also leaving no stone unturned so the accused get strict punishment,” the official said.

Alwar Rape Case: A Night of Terror Before Delhi

The previous night in Alwar, Rajasthan, Meena allegedly raped a woman he knew through her husband. The husband, a friend of Meena’s had gone to attend a wedding with him that Tuesday evening and stayed the night elsewhere. Meena reportedly returned to the village, entered his friend’s home and allegedly assaulted the wife.

Meena also allegedly warned the woman against reporting the incident, threatening to kill her if she spoke up.

“A special team has been formed to probe the rape charge against Rahul Meena here. We have detained over half a dozen people for questioning,” Alwar SP Sudhir Chaudhary said.

“The survivor has undergone a medical examination. We are sharing all the inputs with Delhi Police to fast-track the investigation,” Chaudhary added.

The Alwar case was formally registered at Rajgarh police station in Alwar district. Meena had reportedly played online Ludo with the woman’s husband that is how he knew the family.

Recreating the Crime: From Alwar to Kailash Hills to Dwarka

During his four-day custody, Delhi Police plan to recreate the full sequence of events. Meena will be taken back to the victim’s house in Kailash Hills. He will also be transported to Alwar, where the Rajasthan rape case remains active.

Investigators are also scanning CCTV footage along the entire route from the crime scene in Kailash Hills to the Dwarka hotel. His transportation from Alwar to Delhi also remains under scrutiny.

Initially, Meena told police he arrived in Delhi by ambulance. He later changed his account, claiming he booked a car for Rs 5,000 and ran off without paying the driver upon reaching Delhi.

“Our teams are working to ascertain the exact chain of events, both in Rajasthan and Delhi. We are also scanning the trail of CCTV footage from the crime scene to the hotel in Dwarka from where Rahul was arrested,” a police source said.

The case has shaken Delhi and raised urgent questions about domestic staff screening, security in gated communities and the safety of young women even in their own homes.
