PM Modi Mourns the Hassan Tragedy and Declares Relief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the heartbreaking truck accident in Hassan, Karnataka. According to the statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), families of those who lost their lives will receive financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Additionally, injured victims will be granted relief of ₹50,000.
Truck Loses Control During Ganesh Immersion Procession
The fatal mishap occurred when a truck went out of control during the Ganesh Visarjan procession in Hassan’s Mosale Hosahalli village. The vehicle rammed into the crowd, leading to the death of nine people on the spot and leaving 22 others seriously injured. The accident took place on the concluding day of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. All injured individuals were rushed to a private hospital in Hassan for immediate treatment.
Multiple Young Lives Lost in the Accident
Police sources confirmed that most of the deceased were young boys who had joined the procession. Eyewitnesses revealed that the truck was approaching from the Arkalgud side, and after losing control, it crushed many people in its path. Some victims succumbed to injuries instantly at the scene.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Extends Support
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conveyed condolences and assured that the state government stands firmly with the grieving families. He announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh each for the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister further added that the entire medical cost of the injured will be borne by the state government.
Former CM Kumaraswamy Offers Condolences
Former Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy also expressed grief over the tragic incident. He stated, “Many devotees lost their lives in this unfortunate accident and more than 20 people were seriously injured. I urge the state government to ensure free treatment for all the injured victims.”
