Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, officially inaugurated the Dubai campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad on Thursday. During his two-day visit to the UAE, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described the launch as another significant leap toward globalizing Indian education.
Pradhan shared on X, “This is another major leap in the globalization of Indian education, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.”
He added, “IIM Ahmedabad’s Dubai campus will take India’s finest talent to the global stage. Today, Dubai has provided the perfect platform to realize the ideal of ‘Indian ethos, global vision’ by hosting IIM Ahmedabad’s international campus. We are grateful to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for making a proud contribution to India-UAE knowledge collaboration.”
During the visit, Pradhan also met with UAE’s Acting Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdul Rahman Abdulmannan Al Awar.
An official statement from India’s Ministry of Education said, “Both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation in higher education and agreed to strengthen knowledge bridges, making knowledge, innovation, and research central pillars of a broader strategic partnership.”
The statement further highlighted the focus on promoting academic exchanges, joint research in key emerging sectors, capacity building, and cultural and educational collaboration. Recognizing India as a global hub of talent and the UAE as a global economic center, both nations emphasized their shared commitment to enhancing people-to-people ties and advancing mutual priorities.
Earlier on Wednesday, Minister Pradhan visited the Abu Dhabi campus of IIT Delhi and inaugurated the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) there—the first AIC organized by an Indian institution abroad.
The purpose of Pradhan’s UAE visit is to explore opportunities for educational collaboration, promote academic excellence and innovation, and open new pathways to meet the aspirations of students and youth in both countries.
