Piyush Goyal hints at progress in India-US trade deal, with the first part expected to be finalised by November 2025.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday revealed that the opening tranche of the India-US trade deal is on track to be wrapped up by November this year.
He explained that talks between both nations are progressing smoothly, with negotiators on each side expressing satisfaction over the ongoing discussions.
While addressing media in poll-bound Bihar, Goyal recalled how Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, during their February meeting, had directed their ministers to push the pact forward and ensure the first stage is sealed by November 2025.
“In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump together instructed us that the ministers of both sides should make a good agreement by November,” Goyal said.
He added, “The first part of that agreement, the first tranche, should be finalised by November 2025. Since March, discussions have been held seriously in a very good environment. Progress is being made, and with the progress, both sides are satisfied.”
His statement came soon after Prime Minister Modi and President Trump exchanged friendly messages on social media, underlining their personal rapport.
Trump, writing on his Truth Social platform, expressed optimism about the negotiations, noting his confidence that India and the US would reach a positive outcome.
“I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations,” Trump posted.
He also mentioned that he is eager to talk to his “very good friend” Prime Minister Modi in the coming weeks.
PM Modi responded on X by describing the US as a close ally and a natural partner. He wrote that the trade talks would open new opportunities in the India-US partnership and confirmed that both delegations were committed to closing the negotiations swiftly.
Trump later reshared Modi’s response, highlighting the warm tone and alignment between the two leaders.
