Karnataka Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today for a crucial breakfast discussion amid the ongoing power tussle for the state’s top post.

The simmering feud over the Chief Minister’s chair in Karnataka might be cooling down. Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar arrived at CM Siddaramaiah’s residence this morning, Friday, November 29, 2025. A significant breakfast meeting is currently underway between the two leaders. During the talks, CM Siddaramaiah made a clear statement. He affirmed that he would follow whatever directive the party expects from him. Reports indicate that D.K. Shivakumar will depart for Delhi right after concluding his meeting with the Chief Minister.
K.C. Venugopal’s Counsel to the Leaders
A major political development unfolded on Thursday evening, November 27, 2025, amidst the state’s political tension. Congress General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal intervened. He telephoned both CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, sending a firm message. Venugopal clearly stated that commenting against each other on social media is not the Congress tradition. He advised them to resolve all their differences internally before coming to Delhi. Venugopal suggested both leaders would soon be summoned to Delhi. There, the High Command would assess the entire issue at a table. He also strongly emphasized that party unity is paramount. The Congress leadership will make the final decision, so they must avoid any conflict.
What Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara Said
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara also reacted to the unfolding events. He acknowledged the public sentiments. “Some people want to see D.K. Shivakumar as Chief Minister,” he stated. “Others support Siddaramaiah’s continuation. And some people even wish to see me in that position. Public expectations cannot be stopped.” He added that people express their preferences, whether the discussion on the CM happens after an election or during a term. “There is nothing wrong with this,” he remarked. He concluded by assuring that the High Command is aware of all these issues and will provide the ultimate solution.
Why the Dispute Over the CM Post?
It is widely believed that a two-and-a-half-year formula was agreed upon for the leadership in Karnataka. This deal was allegedly between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. Sources claim Shivakumar was assured he would assume the Chief Minister’s responsibility after the initial one-and-a-half terms. The Siddaramaiah government completed its two-and-a-half-year tenure on November 20. Following this milestone, speculation about a leadership change has intensified. Shivakumar’s supporters have frequently demanded his claim to the top post in the past.
