Officials have enforced strict rules within the temple area this year to ensure peace and maintain its sacred atmosphere.

The doors of the Kedarnath Dham opened this Wednesday, kicking off the pilgrimage season for thousands of waiting devotees. Despite fresh snow covering the town, pilgrims arrived in large numbers to offer their prayers. The Char Dham Yatra began on April 19, and travelers have been reaching base camps since then.
The temple area is currently covered in deep snow. Temperatures remain near the freezing point in the region.
Authorities advised visitors to bring heavy winter clothes. They also urged travelers to stay alert while moving through the mountains.
Ban on mobile phones, videos, and drone cameras
Authorities introduced tough new rules this year to keep the temple grounds orderly and holy. Using mobile phones, cameras, or drones is now strictly forbidden inside the temple perimeter.
Rudraprayag SP Niharika Tomar told ANI, “In accordance with the guidelines issued this time, making any kind of reels or videography in the temple courtyard is prohibited. The use of mobile phones within our perimeter is also prohibited so that its dignity and sanctity are maintained.”
She also noted that flying drones without prior approval is illegal. “Along with this, flying drones without permission is also prohibited here. We have taken action against two drones that were being flown unauthorised. This will continue in the future as well. Therefore, I would request and appeal to everyone not to engage in such unauthorised activities for the sake of the security and sanctity of the Dham,” she added.
The temple management has set up mobile counters and lockers. These allow pilgrims to store their devices safely before entering.
Safety warning due to heavy snow and cold
Officials expressed concern over safety after heavy snowfall in March and April. Rudraprayag District Magistrate Vishal Mishra spoke about the weather conditions. “The snowfall this time was heavy even in March and April. Our devotees are very excited to see the snow. I appeal to everyone to be cautious and not take the routes that are not safe for your journey,” he said.
The administration asked pilgrims to follow all safety rules. Cooperation helps ensure a smooth and safe journey for everyone.
The shrine opened after a long six-month winter break. Chants filled the air as crowds moved toward the temple. Officials expect more visitors soon and have increased security across Kedarnath Dham.
