Official sources confirm the Delhi Cabinet has given in-principle approval to the proposal. The plan now moves to the LG for final clearance before implementation.

Government Plans Major Administrative Shake-up

The government is preparing for a major reorganization to make Delhi’s administration simpler and faster. Under this new plan, the current 11 revenue districts will increase to 13. Additionally, the number of Sub-Divisions (SDM offices) will rise from 33 to 39. The government believes this structure will ensure faster services for the public. It aims to significantly reduce the need for people to run between government offices.

Cabinet Gives Green Light

According to government sources, the Delhi Cabinet has granted in-principle approval to this proposal. The file will now go to the Lieutenant Governor. The New Districts in Delhi system will start immediately after receiving the LG’s permission. The government plans to build a mini-secretariat in every district. This complex will handle all department work except law and order. People will not have to wander around different offices anymore.

How Will the Map Change?

The new boundaries are proposed based on the 11 zones of the Municipal Corporation. The Sadar zone will be renamed the Old Delhi district. The Trans-Yamuna area will see changes too. The current East and North-East districts will end. They will be replaced by two new districts named Shahdara North and Shahdara South. The existing North district will split into Civil Lines and Old Delhi. A large part of the South-West district will join the new Najafgarh district.

Proposed List of New Districts

  • Old Delhi: Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk
  • Central Delhi: Defence Colony, Kalkaji
  • New Delhi: New Delhi, Delhi Cantt
  • Civil Lines: Alipur, Adarsh Nagar, Badli
  • Karol Bagh: Moti Nagar, Karol Bagh

Benefits for the Public

A large population in Delhi visits various offices daily for government work. Often, moving from one department to another wastes both time and money. The government feels that more districts and sub-divisions will bring services closer to home. This move will speed up file processing. It will also reduce crowds in offices and bring transparency to administrative processes. Experts say this reorganization is necessary given Delhi’s rapidly growing population. The New Districts in Delhi will make city administration modern and accessible.
