Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni over the phone. He congratulated her on the India-EU trade deal’s success. Both leaders expressed commitment to enhance bilateral relations further.

PM Modi’s Conversation with Italian PM Meloni
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday. During the discussion, Modi expressed gratitude to his Italian counterpart for her support in finalizing the successful India–European Union trade agreement.
Both leaders reviewed the progress achieved in areas such as investment, defense, security, space, science and technology, education, people-to-people ties, and counter-terrorism. They assessed these developments positively and agreed to build on them further.
Commitment to Strengthen Strategic Partnership
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–29. Sharing details of the conversation, Prime Minister Modi posted on X, “Had an excellent conversation with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. We reiterated our joint commitment to strengthen the India–Italy Strategic Partnership and expressed shared interest in ending the conflict in Ukraine at the earliest. I thanked Prime Minister Meloni for Italy’s active support in finalizing the mutually beneficial India–EU Trade Agreement and in advancing connectivity through the IMEEEC initiative.”
Earlier Meeting During G7 Summit
Modi and Meloni had last met in June during the G7 Summit in Canada. Their cordial friendship was evident in that meeting. Meloni was heard telling Prime Minister Modi that he is the “best” and that she was trying to be like him.
Both leaders also shared posts on X about their meeting. Modi wrote, “India’s friendship with Italy will continue to grow stronger, bringing immense benefits to our people!”
