An advisory board has arrived in Jodhpur to meet environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk. He was arrested following the recent Leh-Ladakh violence. The team will prepare a report after speaking with Sonam Wangchuk in jail.

A high-level advisory board reached Jodhpur on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The board was formed to meet noted environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk. He is an accused in the Leh-Ladakh violence case. The panel members include M. K. Hanjura, former Jammu & Kashmir High Court Judge. He is also the Chairman of the Leh-Ladakh Advisory Board. Leh District Judge Manoj Parihar is also a member. Social worker Spal Jayesh Angmo completes the team.
Panel to Meet Sonam Wangchuk at Jodhpur Jail
All members first arrived at the Jodhpur Circuit House. Local administration extended a welcome to them there. The entire board will rest at the Circuit House tonight. They will meet Sonam Wangchuk on Friday, October 24, 2025. The meeting is scheduled for 10:15 AM at the Jodhpur Central Jail.
Team Will Submit Report to Government Post-Meeting
The advisory board’s main goal is to review the facts of the case. They will also look into Wangchuk’s arrest and his current jail conditions. Members will rest tonight at the Circuit House. They are likely to prepare and submit a report to the government on Friday after the meeting.
Supporters Accuse Government of Suppression
Meanwhile, Wangchuk’s supporters and human rights groups have raised concerns. They question his arrest strongly. They call it an attempt to suppress public movements. The administration, however, defends its action. They cite security reasons for the measures taken.
Wangchuk Detained Under National Security Act
It is noteworthy that Sonam Wangchuk is held under the National Security Act. He is currently lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail. This action came after the recent violence in the Leh-Ladakh region. Sonam Wangchuk has long been a key leader of the Ladakh movement. This movement demands statehood for Ladakh. It also seeks special status under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Allegations Against Sonam Wangchuk of Foreign Links
The Ladakh administration accused Sonam Wangchuk of working for foreign powers. This happened after the movement became aggressive. He was detained on September 26. He was then moved to Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan. Charges against him include contact with a Pakistani intelligence agency. He is also accused of receiving illegal foreign donations.
