Coimbatore Horror Pushes CM Vijay Into Action

A 10-year-old girl’s brutal sexual assault and murder in Coimbatore’s Sulur area shook Tamil Nadu to its core. The crime triggered massive public outrage and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay wasted no time responding. On Monday, he called a high-level law and order review meeting at the Secretariat in Chennai. He made one thing absolutely clear those who commit sexual crimes will face swift and severe punishment, no exceptions.

Vijay directed police to register sexual crime cases immediately without unnecessary delays. He also ordered that investigations be completed at the earliest and that courts try these cases on a fast-track basis. The message from the Chief Minister was firm and unambiguous.

CM Vijay’s Direct Orders at the Review Meeting

At the meeting, Vijay instructed the Advocate General, senior police officials, and Social Welfare Department heads to act with full urgency. He also stressed the need for awareness campaigns and preventive measures around crimes targeting women and children.

In the official government statement, the Chief Minister said “Sexual assault cases should be tried expeditiously and the culprits given severe punishment by conducting the case properly so as to serve as a deterrent to others.”

The review meeting saw participation from several top officials Chief Secretary M Saikumar, Home Secretary K Manivasan, Advocate General Vijay Narayan, Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Department Secretary Mariam Pallavi Baldev, and Director General of Police Sandeep Roy Rathore.

Zero Tolerance : The New Approach of the Vijay Government

This directive is widely seen as one of the strongest statements yet from the Vijay-led government on crimes against women. Since assuming office, Vijay has consistently pushed for public safety and accountability. Monday’s meeting, however, went further it laid out a concrete plan of action covering faster police response, quicker trials, and stronger prosecution.

The Tamil Nadu government confirmed that the focus will remain on three key pillars faster investigations, stronger prosecution in courts, and preventive awareness at the ground level. Officials are now expected to monitor sensitive cases closely and coordinate with prosecutors to drive faster conviction rates.

Opposition Piles On Political Heat Around Safety of Women

The Coimbatore case didn’t just shake ordinary citizens it drew sharp reactions from opposition leaders as well. AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami slammed the government, saying the inability to save an innocent child pointed to sheer government negligence. He said “It is heartbreaking that this government, which is duty-bound to ensure the safety of women and children, has failed to prevent such heinous incidents.”

Palaniswami also brought up a damning statistic from the previous DMK government’s five-year term claiming that over 62,000 criminal incidents were registered during that period, including 27,000 cases under the POCSO Act involving crimes against children. He demanded that the current government make law and order its top priority.

AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran also added his voice to the chorus, urging the Chief Minister to act sternly. PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss went a step further he demanded the death penalty for the perpetrators of the Coimbatore murder.

A State on Edge Renewed Debate on Women’s Safety

The Coimbatore incident has reignited an already heated debate on the safety of women and children across Tamil Nadu. Citizens, activists, and political leaders alike are demanding stronger policing on the ground, speedier justice delivery in courts, and much harsher punishment for sexual offenders.

For the Vijay government, Monday’s high-level meeting was more than just a policy review it was a public signal that the administration is ready to take a firm, no-mercy stance. Whether the directives translate into real, on-the-ground change will be closely watched in the weeks ahead.
