During a media interaction in Bengali, Moitra allegedly accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of neglecting his duties related to border security.

An FIR has been lodged in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for allegedly making “objectionable” comments about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The complaint was filed by Raipur resident Gopal Samanto, following which Moitra, the MP from West Bengal’s Krishnanagar, was booked on Saturday evening under Sections 196 (promoting enmity among groups based on religion, race, place of birth, residence, or language) and 197 (remarks harmful to national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh confirmed.
The remarks, delivered in Bengali during a media interaction on Thursday, allegedly accused Shah of failing to fulfill his responsibilities regarding border protection.
Local BJP leaders claimed Moitra made these statements at a party programme in her constituency. In a video circulated online, she is heard saying: “They keep talking about infiltrators; but protecting the country’s borders is the responsibility of five forces under the Home Ministry.” She further remarked, “If there is no one guarding our borders, if people cross over daily, and if citizens complain that infiltrators are targeting our mothers, sisters, and land…”
Complainant Samanto argued that Moitra’s comments had created fear among Bangladeshi refugees residing in Raipur’s Mana Camp since 1971, warning that such statements could provoke communal tension and disrupt peace.
The BJP strongly condemned her remarks. In addition, Sandip Majumder, spokesperson of the party’s Krishnanagar North organisational district, filed a separate FIR against Moitra at a police station in Kolkata.
