Prashant Kishor Takes Full Responsibility for Jan Suraaj’s Assembly Election ‘Flop Show’ in Bihar

Kishor Concedes Defeat and Accepts Blame

Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj party, held a press conference on Tuesday (November 18, 2025). Jan Suraaj failed to secure any seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. Kishor admitted they could not bring about a regime change in Bihar. He noted they also could not alter the current system. However, Kishor felt they played a small part in changing Bihar’s political narrative. He openly took “full responsibility” for the electoral loss.

Time for Introspection After Collective Defeat

Prashant Kishor stated, “We suffered a collective defeat. This is a time for introspection. We will also reflect on our performance. I congratulate the candidates who have won. The public has chosen its own path.” Kishor added that Nitish Kumar and the BJP now have a responsibility. They must fulfill their promises on development and governance. This includes boosting progress, ending corruption, and creating employment opportunities. He stressed the need to stop migration from Bihar.

“I Failed to Build the System”: Prashant Kishor

Kishor humbly apologized to all supporters who believed in Jan Suraaj’s vision. He said, “The fault is mine for not living up to the hopes and dreams of those who joined Jan Suraaj. I sincerely apologize for this.” He acknowledged his failure, saying, “I was unsuccessful in creating that system.”

Jan Suraaj Pledges to Act as Strong Opposition

The national president of Jan Suraaj, Uday Singh, reacted to the results earlier, on November 15. He had congratulated the NDA on their victory. Singh asserted that the election was fought on their core issues. He promised that Jan Suraaj would continue working on its objectives. Singh stated, “We will act as a strong opposition, even without seats in the Assembly.” He attributed the low vote count to the public’s fear of the RJD returning to power.

Deposits Lost on 236 Seats

Prashant Kishor had claimed he would bring a major political transformation before the 2025 elections. However, the results saw Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party suffer a major collapse. The party fielded candidates in 238 out of 243 seats. Shockingly, the election deposits of 236 candidates were forfeited.

Kishor’s Vow Broken After JDU’s Strong Showing

Kishor had been so confident in Jan Suraaj that he made a bold pre-election promise. He vowed to quit politics if the JDU won more than 25 seats. The results were surprising: the JDU secured 85 seats. JDU senior leader Rajiv Ranjan commented on this. He said, “Just making big statements does not make anyone an alternative to Nitish Kumar.” Ranjan added, “His role as a strategist was fine. But a politician cannot replace Nitish Kumar by only making big claims.”
