Maharashtra’s civic election dates are likely to be declared today. The State Election Commission (SEC) is set to hold a press conference. This important briefing is scheduled for 4 PM on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare will address the media.

What is the Expectation?

Local self-government body elections will probably be announced. Initial reports suggest dates for the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat polls first. The Model Code of Conduct will be immediately enforced. This will happen if election dates are declared today. Sources indicate the state elections will occur in three phases.

The first phase involves elections for 246 Municipal Councils. It also includes 42 Nagar Panchayats across the state. The entire election process will take about 21 days. The Election Commission may then quickly announce the second phase. This phase will cover Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. Municipal Corporation elections are likely to be announced in the final phase.

The Supreme Court has mandated a deadline. All local body elections must be completed before January 31, 2026. These polls include 289 Municipal Corporations statewide. They also cover 32 Zilla Parishads, 331 Panchayat Samitis, and 29 Municipalities. The entire state is keenly watching these upcoming elections.

Did an NCP Leader Leak the Election Dates Earlier?

A controversy arose recently. Senior NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil sparked the row in Pune. He had announced the probable dates for the long-pending local body polls. The NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, is part of the ruling Mahayuti government. This government is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Walse Patil stated the Zilla Parishad elections might be on December 15. He also suggested Municipal Corporation polls could happen on January 15. The Supreme Court set January 31, 2026, as the final deadline. This is for holding the pending local body elections. A video of Walse Patil is circulating on social media. He is allegedly heard saying, “My information suggests Zilla Parishad elections are likely on December 15. Civic body elections could be on January 15. The entire process for local and civic body elections will finish before January 31.”
