President Donald Trump gave a significant statement about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He was speaking to the media before a Cabinet meeting in Washington. Trump described the conflict as an extremely challenging situation. He also noted that resolving it will not be simple. Trump asserted that he has previously resolved eight wars. He suggested this might be the ninth conflict. Furthermore, he mentioned that his team is actively negotiating in Russia to try and end it.

Efforts to End the Conflict

“We are certainly trying to conclude this war,” Trump stated. “Our people are in Russia right now. They are seeing if we can work it out. But this situation is not easy. The circumstances are very messy.” Trump’s comments came while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was visiting Ireland. Zelenskyy expressed a faint hope for peace talks during an event in Dublin. He acknowledged that recent intensified talks and US interest have given positive indications.

Zelenskyy’s Take on US Involvement

Zelenskyy remarked, “There is a slight glimmer of hope. This is because negotiations have gained some speed. Also, the American side is showing interest.” He added, “This clearly shows that the US is not stepping away from any diplomatic talks. That is a good sign for us.”

Russia Issues Warning to European Nations

Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a firm caution to European countries. He warned that if Europe attempts to wage war against Russia, it will face a swift and definitive defeat. This defeat would be so severe that no party would remain for Russia to negotiate with. Putin’s statement followed a continuous rise in military support provided to Ukraine by Europe and NATO nations.

How Much of Ukraine Does Russia Occupy?

The current scenario shows Russia controlling about 19% of Ukraine’s territory. This marks an increase of roughly 1% compared to the data from 2023. Although Russia has advanced more quickly in 2025 than before, it has still failed to capture the entirety of Ukraine.
