Uzma Khanum’s Visit to Adiala Jail

Rumours about Imran Khan’s health were mounting. His family was seeking proof that he is alive. Authorities at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail allowed a meeting on Tuesday. The former prime minister’s sister, Uzma Khanum, was permitted to see him. This was reported by the Pakistani outlet, The Dawn.

Uzma Khanum entered the jail facility. Many Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters were with her. They gathered outside the prison facility.

Protests and Visitation Concerns

The meeting happened during PTI protests. These took place outside the Islamabad High Court. Protests also occurred at Adiala Jail. The party alleged restrictions on Khan’s visitation rights. They claimed his family and senior leaders were denied access. This denial had reportedly lasted for several weeks.

Family Demands Proof of Life

Khan’s son and sister have publicly demanded proof. They want evidence that the jailed PTI founder is alive. Speculation about his condition has grown during his incarceration. Rumours about his death intensified recently. His sisters were reportedly denied permission to visit. This happened despite court orders allowing family access.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was quoted by the Pakistani daily. He said no one has met the PTI founder. His wife, Bushra Bibi, also saw no one. This restriction has been in place since October 27.

Son’s Statements and Jail Authorities

Khan’s son, Kasim Khan, spoke on Friday. He stated his father has been held for 845 days. He has been in solitary confinement for six weeks. This is in a “death cell with zero transparency.” He added that his father’s sisters were blocked from visiting. This occurred even with court-approved access. “There have been no phone calls, no meetings,” he said. “And no proof of life. Me and my brother have had no contact with our father.”

Adiala Jail authorities, however, maintain a different position. They insist that Imran Khan is in “good health.”

Party Statement and Security Measures

The party gave a statement on Thursday. It said his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, received permission to meet him. “The government allowed Dr Uzma to see her brother in jail today,” the party stated. “But let’s see whether the government honours its commitment,” they added, as reported by news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government deployed police. The entire Rawalpindi police force was sent. They were positioned along Adiala Road. This was to prevent the planned PTI protest. Section 144 is already in force. It bars gatherings of four or more people. This applies in both Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Senior officials and police from eight stations are outside Adiala Jail.
