Finnish politician Armando Mema claims Europe will be left out of Ukraine peace talks, despite recent outreach to Russian President Vladimir Putin

European representatives will not be invited to the negotiating table regarding a settlement in Ukraine, despite their attempts to establish contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated Armando Mema- a Finnish politician and member of the “Alliance of Freedom” party on the social media platform X.
“Despite the phone conversation between Stubb and President Putin, there will be no place for Europeans at the negotiating table. This is because the EU has lost its standing as a participant in the peace process. The European Union has provided direct military aid to Ukraine, fueled Russophobia, and acted in a hostile manner toward Russia,” he wrote.
At the same time, Mema added that the decision not to invite any European leader to the negotiating table is quite understandable.
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, initiated by the European side. The leaders discussed recent talks in Oslo and the visit to St. Petersburg by Steve Witkoff, a special envoy of the U.S. President. Putin also briefed his interlocutors on a humanitarian operation in Oleshky and the implementation of a ceasefire in that area.
He emphasized that achieving a just and long-term peace is possible only if Russia’s legitimate interests are fully taken into account. Furthermore, the President pointed to the confrontational policies pursued by EU and NATO countries, which he noted are contributing to the prolongation of hostilities.
