Anti-Indian Hate Rises Significantly

Hate crimes against Indian-Americans have increased in the US during President Donald Trump’s second term. Online hatred and violence targeting South Asian communities were limited under Biden. By October 2024, the report noted 46,000 instances of trolling and 884 threats. The situation grew much worse after Trump’s return to office. Trolling rose to 88,000 by October 2025. This shows a massive 91 percent increase.

A discussion between Trump, Musk, and Ramaswamy in December on visa and immigration issues further inflamed tensions. After this, 76 percent of threats were related to losing jobs. Trump’s administration decided to hike H-1B visa fees and deport 104 Indians. This worsened the existing environment.

These events led to a rise in shootings and temple attacks in Texas, Virginia, and California. The Center for the Study of Organized Hate, a think tank, reports a surge in racist posts lately.

Indian Community Targeted in Multiple Cities

Violent incidents targeting the Indian-American community took place across US cities from November 2024 to October 2025. In February 2025, a businessman of Indian-American origin was shot dead in Virginia. March 2025 saw a father and daughter killed in a grocery store attack. In September 2025, two students and a worker were murdered in Dallas, Texas. The world was shocked that same month by the beheading of Chandramouli Nagmallaiya.

October 2025 involved a motel shooting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The attack specifically targeted the Indian-origin owner and employees. Hate crimes against students were also reported in Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana.

“Remove Indians from the Country”

Reports state this rising racist trend targets the entire South Asian community, not just Indians. Discrimination is common based on religion, citizenship, or ethnic identity. The report cites four primary reasons for this rise. A major driver is the global anger against immigrants in the US, Europe, and Australia. This anti-immigrant sentiment is a key part of emerging right-wing politics worldwide.

Trump’s Policies Fuel Racist Posts Against Indians

There is major public anger in the US over the H-1B visa. This sentiment is fueling the racist trend. Right-wing groups accuse Indians of taking American jobs with fewer qualifications. This led to more social media posts calling to “Remove Indians from the country.”

Stress over the India-US trade deal also increased the hatred. Some exaggerate incidents like a fatal accident involving a Sikh truck driver in Florida. They use such events to spread hatred against Indians. Anti-India racist posts spiked after the 2024 presidential election. The first cause was opposition to the appointment of Sriram Krishnan as a key advisor in the Trump administration. The second cause involved Vivek Ramaswamy. He had called for more visas for immigrant workers.
