Israeli Airstrikes Kill 12 Civilians in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley Village

Twelve civilians lost their lives after Israeli warplanes launched a series of heavy strikes on the village of Mashghara in Lebanon’s western Bekaa Valley with rescue operations still underway and the final death toll yet to be confirmed.

Twelve civilians are dead after Israeli airstrikes hit the Lebanese village of Mashghara. The village sits in the western part of the Bekaa Valley. A source within Lebanon’s emergency medical services confirmed the toll to reporters on Tuesday.

Bodies Pulled From the Rubble

Recovery teams worked through the evening and into the night pulling bodies from the ruins of collapsed homes. “During the clearing of rubble from destroyed houses in Mashghara in the evening and at night, the bodies of 12 people were found all of them civilians and there are also many wounded,” the source said.

Rescue workers were still active at the site early Tuesday morning. Because search-and-rescue operations continued, authorities had not yet announced a final count of the dead and injured.

Six Strikes Hit the Village

A military field source had earlier reported that Israeli aircraft carried out six heavy strikes on Mashghara on Monday evening. The strikes targeted the settlement on the western edge of the Bekaa Valley one of Lebanon’s most geographically exposed regions.

The strikes came as Lebanon and Israel remained locked in tense diplomatic exchanges. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Sunday that Lebanon in its talks with Israel is defending its right to full sovereignty over its territory.

Rescue Teams Race Against Time

As dawn broke over the Bekaa Valley, emergency crews were still sifting through the destruction. The scale of damage to residential buildings left open the possibility that additional victims remained buried. Authorities stressed that all confirmed casualties so far are civilians with no combatants identified among the dead.

The incident marks one of the deadliest single strikes on Lebanese civilian areas in recent weeks drawing fresh international attention to ongoing hostilities along the Lebanon-Israel frontier.
