Israel on Monday condemned the deadly shooting in Jerusalem, describing it as a “horrific terrorist attack” on the nation’s capital. A senior official from the Israeli government said the assault reminded people of previous atrocities committed against their citizens. According to Israeli police, emergency services, and local hospitals, Palestinian attackers opened fire at a crowded bus stop near a busy intersection in northern Jerusalem. The assault claimed six lives and left 12 others wounded.

Within hours of the incident, Israel’s Accountant General, Yali Rothenberg, expressed his grief while visiting India. Rothenberg, who is currently on an official tour, revealed that the mother of one of his employees had died in the attack.

Speaking about the tragedy, he said that such incidents bring back painful memories of similar atrocities in Israel two years ago. He added that this is a reminder of the global need to confront such acts for the sake of humanity. Rothenberg is part of a high-level Israeli delegation traveling to India, led by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

Earlier, Israel’s Foreign Ministry shared a post on X, declaring, “This is the evil Israel is facing.” The post detailed that two terrorists targeted a bus in Jerusalem, indiscriminately firing at passengers, pedestrians, and anyone nearby. According to the ministry, the brutal attack killed five people and injured more than ten others.

Later, the ministry circulated a video statement by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. In his address, he said, “This morning, in our nation’s capital Jerusalem, a dreadful terrorist attack took place. Two Palestinian terrorists murdered Jews traveling in buses at Ramot Junction.” He emphasized that Israel is waging a war against radical Islamic terrorism and added, “Europe and the international community must now make a clear choice: Are they standing with Israel, or siding with the jihadists?”
