Reuters Names Wonsan as the Launch Site

Reuters, citing South Korean military sources, reports that the missile North Korea fired was ballistic. The agency says the launch took place in the city of Wonsan. The North Korea ballistic missile report follows earlier news of a launch toward the Sea of Japan.

Yonhap and NHK Add Details

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency was the first to report that North Korea fired a missile toward the Sea of Japan. Reuters later cited Japan’s NHK television channel. NHK said the missile likely landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

Military Statement on the Launch

“Баллистическая ракета была выпущена из Вонсана” is how the Reuters report quotes the military, which in English reads: “A ballistic missile was launched from Wonsan.” The statement ties the North Korea ballistic missile directly to the Wonsan area.

Missile Flew More Than 700 Kilometers

Yonhap later cited South Korean military officials with a new detail. The missile covered more than 700 kilometers in flight. That is the latest figure shared on the launch.
