Rawalpindi Declared High-Alert Zone

The government of Pakistan has officially announced the implementation of Section 144. This order covers the entire Rawalpindi district. The action was taken as unconfirmed reports about Imran Khan’s well-being and current location escalated. Authorities suspected his party, PTI, might organize large-scale protests nationwide. Therefore, all types of gatherings and assemblies are prohibited from December 1 to December 3.

Strict Restrictions Enforced by Administration

District Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hasan Waqar Cheema issued the binding orders. His directive clearly states that no crowds will be allowed to gather during these three days. The administration also clarified several prohibitions. Carrying weapons, sticks, or any flammable material is strictly disallowed. Attempts to remove police barricades are banned. Loudspeaker usage at high volume is completely stopped. Even riding a motorcycle with two people (pillion riding) is restricted. The government claims to have received sensitive intelligence inputs. These reports suggest potential for violence and public disorder.

PTI Raises Serious Concerns

Imran Khan has been detained in Adiala Jail since August of last year. His political party alleges a serious blockade. They claim they have not been allowed to see their leader for over a month. Furthermore, they haven’t received any verified communication from him. PTI leaders maintain that the government is concealing his true condition. Consequently, the party was planning extensive, peaceful demonstrations. However, the administration preemptively controlled the situation. They banned all forms of rallies and public assemblies.

Imran Khan’s Son Expresses Distress

Qasim Khan, currently residing abroad, shared his deep worry with Reuters. He stated there has been absolutely no contact with his father for months. The family also lacks any trustworthy information about his condition. Qasim describes the situation as mental agony for the entire family. He accused the jail authorities of defying High Court orders. They are allegedly refusing to allow visitation. He fears his father’s condition has become extremely serious.

Why Are Authorities Concerned? Intelligence Report Sparks Action

A report from the district’s intelligence committee raised alarms. It indicated that some groups might attempt to redirect protests. The targets could include sensitive military-linked installations. Following this warning, the government made a clear statement. They assert that Section 144 is essential. It is needed to prevent any unpleasant incidents. It also helps maintain public safety. Given the recent volatile political climate, the administration is taking no chances.

The Journey from Star Captain to Prison Cell

Imran Khan led Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup. He later became Prime Minister, serving from 2018 to 2022. He has faced numerous legal cases since last year. Some of these cases have resulted in convictions. Khan asserts that all charges are acts of political revenge. However, the questions now surrounding his prison status are creating a new crisis. This is significantly altering Pakistan’s political landscape.
