Sergio Gor, the current US Ambassador to India, is being discussed as a possible successor to Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, The Washington Sun reports.

Washington Sun Names Possible Rubio Successor
Sergio Gor, the US Ambassador to India, might take over from Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. That claim comes from the news outlet The Washington Sun.
The outlet says insiders familiar with talks inside the Trump administration have mentioned Gor for several top roles. These include a possible stint as White House chief of staff. His name has also come up as a potential replacement for Rubio at the State Department.
“According to sources familiar with discussions inside the administration, Gor’s name is being floated for a number of key roles, including a possible run as White House chief of staff or as a successor to Marco Rubio as Secretary of State,” the report states.
Gor Reportedly Wants A Bigger Public Role
One source who spoke with the outlet said Gor is pushing for a more visible, public facing position within the administration.
Senior government posts could open up during the second half of Trump’s presidential term, according to the report. Several officials may shift roles or step down as the administration moves into its later years.
Rubio Has Stayed Quiet On 2028
Back in September, Rubio avoided answering whether he plans to run for president in 2028. He insisted that his full focus stays on his current job as Secretary of State.
A WABC radio host once asked him directly about his presidential ambitions. Rubio called the question a “nice try.” He admitted he’s heard the chatter around this topic. Still, he said he doesn’t believe anything good would come from it.
