People close to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer believe he’s preparing to resign. He might reveal his decision as soon as Monday, the Telegraph reports, citing government officials.

Insiders Say “The Game Is Up”

The Telegraph quoted a senior government source on the matter. According to that source, Keir Starmer’s allies believe he is preparing to step down… The embattled Prime Minister realizes that “the game is up.” allies are convinced Starmer is preparing to leave office, and the embattled premier himself realizes the situation has become untenable.

A Labour MP told the paper Starmer will likely name his departure date on Monday. The lawmaker added that only “friends and family” still stand firmly behind him at this point.

Pressure Has Been Building for Weeks

The Telegraph reported on Saturday that more than 100 British MPs are now pushing for Starmer’s resignation. That number kept climbing through the week.

On Friday, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander became the first cabinet minister to publicly call for Starmer to go. Her statement came right after his rival Andy Burnham won a seat in Parliament, a move widely seen as a bid to challenge the prime minister directly.

Burnham’s Rise Adds to the Squeeze

Back in early May, nearly 100 Labour MPs demanded Starmer’s resignation. That wave followed the party’s poor showing in local elections across the country. Labour MP Josh Simons announced around the same time that he was stepping down from his Makerfield seat, clearing the way for Burnham Starmer’s chief rival to take it.

Pressure on Starmer has been mounting for months, and Monday could mark a turning point for his premiership.
