Eight American Marines suffered injuries two weeks ago in a Strait of Hormuz attack on a US Navy ship. NBC reported the news on Monday, citing American officials. The network said Iran carried out the strike.

Injuries Were Not Serious, Sources Say

The Strait of Hormuz attack took place on September 14. All the injured Marines went back to duty soon after. Sources told NBC the troops did not suffer serious injuries.

Still, the Marines breathed in smoke. They also likely suffered traumatic brain injuries. Some showed concussion symptoms, such as headaches.

Iran Offers a Seven Day Plan, Trump Says No

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said earlier that Tehran sent Washington a seven day plan through mediators. The plan aimed to open the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump said he rejected the Iranian offer.

Araghchi spoke again overnight on Sunday. He said Iran still expects a final answer from the mediators on the American position. He said this despite Trump’s statement.

From Peace Memorandum to Fresh Escalation

In mid June, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum. It aimed to start the process of reaching a peace deal. Three weeks later, a new round of escalation began.

Washington accused Tehran of firing on commercial ships in the strait. After that, both sides resumed exchanging strikes. The Strait of Hormuz attack came during this wider round of renewed strikes. Right now, ships cannot pass freely through the waterway.
